Format: Installation
Year: 2016 – 2017
Materials: batteries, wood, steel, voltmeter, foam
Size: 160 x 50 x 120 cm
vacuus meter contains around 400 consumed, empty, ‘dead’ batteries taken from recycling centers. Connected all together, they form a powerful entity, a body of batteries that contains a big amount of energy. The electricity is measured and a value is displayed. This represents the rest, remained, trapped, purposeless energy measured in Volts.
The installation questions the use of resources, together with the notion of trash and shows alternative methods of recycling. At the same time, the work shows the impossibility of absolute emptiness and by association, of total consumption.
vacuus meter is the first installation of a long series, containing batteries from recycling centers as a main medium.
The work was exhibited at: Kunsthaus Langenthal, Cantonale Berne Jura 2018, CH, CAP-Haus, Bern, part of the exhibition “to, for, you” in 2017, CH, KulturRaum Zwinglikirche Berlin e.V. in Kooperation mit der Medienwerkstatt im Kulturwerk des bbk berlin, part of the exhibition “Raumlektüre” in 2016, DE
