Format: Action-Performance
Year: 2020
Materials: Self-portrait of Andy Warhol, Scream
Screaming at Andy Warhol shows the confrontation between two perceptions from different times: that of my own, the young struggling artist that is alive here and now, and that of Andy Warhol, the powerful celebrity artist, leading figure in the art movement “pop art”, which deceased.
It is a confrontation that represents a display of power between the present and the past: powerlessness of the present in front of the dominating past and in the same time, powerfulness of the present to take action towards something passed, lifeless.
As the most personal and intimate artwork that an artist can leave behind about himself, the self-portrait is the closest I can get to the core of Andy Warhol in order to confront him.
In the same time, scream is the most powerful auditive action I can make with my body solely, towards somebody or something else with the emotional purpose of defense, fear, pain, anger or surprise, joy, ecstasy.
The action was done at Fondation Beyeler in Basel during the exhibition “Silent Vision” in 2020, CH.
